An Agave (Century Plant) stands sentinel to Thunder River, shortest river in the U.S., which flows about a half mile before joining with a creek, Tapeats Creek. Tapeats retains its name and flows another two miles to the Colorado River. For scale, those are full-size cottonwood trees near the river. The roar of this fire hydrant-like gusher could be heard a half mile from the rim overlooking the canyon.
